Restoring rights after a felonyRestoration is automatic for most rights: on final discharge (finishing prison, probation and parole), a person convicted of an Idaho felony gets back the full rights of citizenship. Gun rights are the exception for treason and the serious felonies listed in the statute (for example murder, voluntary manslaughter, rape, robbery, kidnapping, burglary, aggravated assault or battery, felony drug manufacturing or delivery, trafficking and listed child sex crimes). Those people may apply to the Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole to restore firearm rights, but not until 5 years after final discharge, and the commission may not restore them for murder or for a listed felony whose sentence was enhanced for using a firearm.
