What Alabama law says
| Notice before a rent increase | No statute. Alabama sets no notice period for a rent increase. For a month-to-month tenancy, the landlord can change the terms by ending the tenancy with at least 30 days' written notice before the periodic rental date (7 days for week-to-week). A landlord may not raise rent to retaliate against a tenant for protected activity. |

| Rent control / increase limits | Local rent control is preempted statewide. No county, city, or other local government may enact, maintain, or enforce a measure controlling the rent charged for leasing private property. There is no statewide rent cap. Source: Ala. Code § 11-80-8.1 |
