Rent Receipt in California
A simple rent receipt to give a tenant for each payment — especially cash. Some states require a receipt for cash rent; check your state below.
What California law says
| Rent receipts | On request. No landlord-tenant statute requires an automatic rent receipt, but under the general rule for debts, a tenant who pays has the right to require a written receipt from the landlord. The statute does not list required contents. Landlords must generally accept at least one form of payment other than cash or electronic transfer (Civ. Code § 1947.3). Source: Cal. Civ. Code § 1499 |
