Unemployment Appeal Letter in Florida

A letter appealing a denial of unemployment benefits. Appeal deadlines are short and strict in every state — file before the deadline shown below, even if you are still gathering documents, and keep claiming benefits each week while the appeal is pending if your state allows it.

What Florida law says

Appealing a denialYou have 20 days after the date the determination was mailed (or delivered, if not mailed) to appeal to an appeals referee. For a monetary determination, you may instead ask FloridaCommerce to reconsider within 20 days. A referee's decision can be appealed to the Reemployment Assistance Appeals Commission within 20 days of its mailing.
If you were firedIf you were discharged for misconduct connected with your work, you are disqualified for the full period of unemployment that follows, until you are reemployed and have earned at least 17 times your weekly benefit amount. The disqualification cannot extend beyond 52 weeks; FloridaCommerce sets its length based on the circumstances and seriousness of the misconduct.
If you quitIf you quit without good cause, you are disqualified until you have earned at least 17 times your weekly benefit amount. Good cause means only a cause attributable to your employer that would make a reasonable employee stop working, or your own illness or disability that requires you to leave. You are not disqualified for returning to temporary work when recalled within 6 months, relocating because of a military spouse's orders, or leaving because of domestic violence if you meet the law's requirements.
