Columbus Landlord-Tenant Rules

Columbus adds local rules on top of Georgia landlord-tenant law. Here is what is different, with the city code or agency page behind each rule.

Habitability/code enforcement & complaint lineIf your rental does not meet minimum standards, contact the Inspections & Code Department's Property Maintenance division at (706) 225-4126 or inspections@columbusga.org. A Property Maintenance Inspector will visit the property and check conditions against the International Property Maintenance Code, which the City enforces.
The page does not describe an online complaint form. The local code section adopting the property maintenance code was not confirmed.
Local rental assistanceThe City's Family Connection resource guide (revised June 2025) lists local agencies that help with rent and utilities: St. Anne's Catholic Charities (1720 13th Ave., 706-568-1592), Chattahoochee Valley Episcopal Ministry (5001 12th Ave., 706-327-0400) and Wynnton Neighborhood Network (2100 Hilton Ave., 706-327-0838). For other agencies that help with rent, dial 211 or text your ZIP code to 898-211.
The guide lists eligibility conditions (an eviction notice, at least 3 months in the home, a legal lease, residence in Muscogee, Lee or Russell County, help limited to one month's rent) next to these agencies; check with each agency which conditions apply to it. Funding changes, so call first.

Eviction cases in Columbus are heard in: Municipal Court of Columbus (Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit), Government Center, 100 10th Street, 8th Floor, Columbus. The court's page states that all dispossessory proceedings are handled in Municipal Court.

How we source this page: each state-specific rule links to the statute, court rule or official government page it comes from. A rule taken from a public copy of a state code (used only where the official code is not freely readable online) is marked as a secondary source. Spot an error? Use the contact page to report it.
