Hawaii Security Deposit Itemization Letter Template

What a Hawaii security deposit itemization letter must include under Hawaii law, and a fill-in draft that follows those rules.

What Hawaii law requires

Within 14 days after the rental agreement ends, written notice of the particulars of and grounds for any amount kept, with written evidence of costs (estimates or invoices for materials and services, or receipts or charges for cleaning), and return of the balance. Not required if the tenant wrongfully quit. If the notice is not given within 14 days, the landlord must return the entire deposit. Compliance is presumed if mailed to the tenant's supplied address and postmarked by the 14th day.

Mailing presumption per existing verified state record.

Fill-in draft

Replace every [bracketed] item. If your state or city requires specific wording, a specific form, or a translated version, that requirement controls over this draft. Courts dismiss eviction cases over defective notices — if anything is unclear, talk to a lawyer.
