Iowa Notice to End a Month-to-Month Tenancy Template

What a Iowa notice to end a month-to-month tenancy must include under Iowa law, and a fill-in draft that follows those rules.

What Iowa law requires

Written notice given at least 30 days before the periodic rental date specified in the notice (month-to-month); at least 10 days before the termination date for week-to-week; at least 30 days before the end of the term for longer periodic tenancies. A landlord's termination notice must be served by acknowledged delivery to a resident 18+, personal service, or door posting plus regular and certified mail; mail service is complete 4 days after mailing.

Source: Iowa Code §562A.34(1)-(3); §562A.29A

No specific wording is prescribed; the notice should state the termination date.

Fill-in draft

Replace every [bracketed] item. If your state or city requires specific wording, a specific form, or a translated version, that requirement controls over this draft. Courts dismiss eviction cases over defective notices — if anything is unclear, talk to a lawyer.
