What Iowa law says
| Notice before a rent increase | Each tenant must be notified in writing of any rent increase at least 30 days before it takes effect, and the increase may not take effect before the original lease (or any renewal or extension) expires. This applies to all tenancies. A month-to-month tenancy may be ended by either side on 30 days' written notice before the periodic rental date (§ 562A.34(2)). There is no longer notice period for large increases. |
|---|---|
| Rent control / increase limits | Preempted: cities and counties may not adopt or enforce any limit on the amount of rent for private residential or commercial property (except property in which the local government has an interest). No statewide cap. |
