Rent Receipt in Maryland

A simple rent receipt to give a tenant for each payment — especially cash. Some states require a receipt for cash rent; check your state below.

What Maryland law says

Rent receiptsCash or on request. A landlord or agent must give a receipt when the tenant pays in cash or asks for a receipt. In Anne Arundel County, a receipt showing the payment and the period it covers is required for every payment unless the tenant pays by check (or the property is commercial). Landlords must also keep records of rent paid showing that a receipt was given for each cash payment. Failure to give a required receipt makes the landlord liable to the tenant for $25, in addition to other penalties.
A separate security-deposit receipt is required under §§ 8-203(c) and 8-203.1.
