Room Rental Agreement in Maryland

For renting a room in a home, including your own home. Some states treat a renter in the owner's home (a lodger) differently when ending the arrangement — see your state's household rules.

What Maryland law says

Tenancy at willWhere a tenancy is at will and the landlord wants possession, the landlord gives notice to quit to the tenant or person in actual possession and, if they refuse to leave, may file a complaint in District Court for restitution of the property. The statute's listed notice periods cover stated-term, year-to-year, month-to-month (60 days) and week-to-week (7 days with a written lease, 21 days without) tenancies.
Local laws, such as in Baltimore City or Montgomery County, may add requirements.
