Michigan Security Deposit Itemization Letter Template
What a Michigan security deposit itemization letter must include under Michigan law, and a fill-in draft that follows those rules.
What Michigan law requires
Within 30 days after the tenant moves out, mail a notice of damages with an itemized list of the damages claimed, the estimated repair cost for each damaged item, and the amounts and basis for each charge. Damages noted on the move-in checklist may not be included. Send with it a check or money order for the balance, or pay the balance by direct deposit or electronic transfer within 10 days after mailing the notice. The notice must contain this statement in 12-point boldface type at least 4 points larger than the body text: "You must respond to this notice by mail within 7 days after receipt of the notice of damages, otherwise you will forfeit the amount claimed for damages."

Fill-in draft
Replace every [bracketed] item. If your state or city requires specific wording, a specific form, or a translated version, that requirement controls over this draft. Courts dismiss eviction cases over defective notices — if anything is unclear, talk to a lawyer.
