Vehicle Bill of Sale in Michigan
A record of a private car, truck or motorcycle sale between a seller and a buyer. Many states transfer ownership through the signed title itself and use a bill of sale as proof of the price and date. Check your state's rules below: some require a specific DMV form or a notary.
What Michigan law says
| Selling a vehicle: bill of sale and title | When a vehicle is sold, the owner must endorse the certificate of title as the Secretary of State requires, including an assignment with a warranty of title and a statement of any security interests, and deliver (or have mailed or delivered) the title to the buyer. The transfer takes effect on the date the buyer signs the application for title or the assignment of the title. The section read does not require a separate bill of sale or notarization and does not state a buyer's deadline; check Secretary of State requirements. Source: MCL 257.233(8)-(9) |
