Vehicle Bill of Sale in Missouri
A record of a private car, truck or motorcycle sale between a seller and a buyer. Many states transfer ownership through the signed title itself and use a bill of sale as proof of the price and date. Check your state's rules below: some require a specific DMV form or a notary.
What Missouri law says
| Selling a vehicle: bill of sale and title | When a titled vehicle or trailer is sold, the owner must sign the assignment and warranty of title printed on the certificate of ownership, list all liens, and deliver the title to the buyer when the vehicle is delivered. The buyer presents the assigned title to the Director of Revenue when applying for registration, and a new title is issued. Selling a Missouri-registered vehicle without passing the assigned title at delivery is presumed fraudulent and void, except for a licensed dealer's written delayed-delivery agreement. If the vehicle is sold to a resident of another state or country, the owner must notify the Director of Revenue immediately. The section read does not require a separate bill of sale or notarization or set the buyer's deadline; check Department of Revenue requirements. Source: RSMo 301.210 |
