Vehicle Bill of Sale in New Hampshire
A record of a private car, truck or motorcycle sale between a seller and a buyer. Many states transfer ownership through the signed title itself and use a bill of sale as proof of the price and date. Check your state's rules below: some require a specific DMV form or a notary.
What New Hampshire law says
| Selling a vehicle: bill of sale and title | For a titled vehicle, the seller must, when delivering the vehicle, sign the assignment and warranty of title on the certificate of title and give it to the buyer (or the state). Motor vehicles with a model year before 2000 (other than heavy trucks over 18,000 pounds) do not need a title; for those, the buyer registers with a bill of sale, which must show the sale date, a vehicle description (make, model, VIN, model year, year of manufacture, body type, cylinders), the buyer's name and address, and the seller's signature and address. To register, the buyer gets a permit from the town or city clerk with photo ID and the title (or title application) or bill of sale. Between the parties, a transfer is not effective until the title assignment requirements are met (RSA 261:14, IV). Chapter 261: https://gc.nh.gov/rsa/html/XXI/261/261-mrg.htm |
