Rent Receipt in New Mexico
A simple rent receipt to give a tenant for each payment — especially cash. Some states require a receipt for cash rent; check your state below.
What New Mexico law says
| Rent receipts | No general statute requiring rent receipts. Two narrow rules apply: (1) when a tenant appealing an eviction judgment pays rent directly to the landlord to stay the eviction, the landlord must immediately give a written receipt on demand; (2) a landlord who charges an application screening fee must give a written or digital receipt for it. Unless otherwise agreed, rent is payable at the dwelling unit (§ 47-8-15(B)). Tenants paying in cash should ask for a written receipt to prove payment. |
