Fayetteville Landlord-Tenant Rules
Fayetteville adds local rules on top of North Carolina landlord-tenant law. Here is what is different, with the city code or agency page behind each rule.
| Fair housing (local ordinance and complaints) | Fayetteville adopted a Fair Housing Ordinance in 2018. It lets the Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations Department investigate housing discrimination complaints and enforce compliance through mediation, penalties or legal action, with the support of the City's Fair Housing Board and City Attorney's Office. The department covers race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability and families with children (no extra local classes are listed). Complaints outside its jurisdiction are sent to the right local, state or federal agency. Call 910-433-1696. Protected classes: https://www.fayettevillenc.gov/City-Departments/Human-Relations. |

| Habitability & code-enforcement complaint line | The City's Code Enforcement Division enforces minimum standards for dwellings and buildings, among other codes. Report a violation through the FayFixIt / SeeClickFix website, by email to CodeEnforcement@fayettevillenc.gov, by calling (910) 433-1FAY (1329), or on the Code Enforcement tip/complaint line, (910) 433-1056. Inspectors give the owner a notice and time to comply; failure to comply usually brings civil penalties, and continued violations can lead to criminal charges.
