Vehicle Bill of Sale in North Dakota
A record of a private car, truck or motorcycle sale between a seller and a buyer. Many states transfer ownership through the signed title itself and use a bill of sale as proof of the price and date. Check your state's rules below: some require a specific DMV form or a notary.
What North Dakota law says
| Selling a vehicle: bill of sale and title | To sell a titled vehicle, the seller must sign the assignment and warranty of title on the certificate of title, listing the buyer's name and the selling price, and deliver the endorsed title to the buyer within 30 days of the sale. The buyer must take the endorsed title to the Department of Transportation and apply for a new title within 30 days of receiving it, with a $5 transfer fee; violations are a class B misdemeanor. NDDOT publishes a Private Party Vehicle Bill of Sale (SFN 62502), a separate Assignment and Warranty of Title (SFN 2877) and the Application for Certificate of Title and Registration (SFN 2872). SFN 62502: https://dot.nd.gov/forms/sfn62502.pdf ; SFN 2877: https://www.dot.nd.gov/forms/sfn02877.pdf. Neither form contains a notary block; vehicles without a title follow a separate NDDOT process. |
