Rhode Island Notice to End a Month-to-Month Tenancy Template

What a Rhode Island notice to end a month-to-month tenancy must include under Rhode Island law, and a fill-in draft that follows those rules.

Use the official form if there is one

What Rhode Island law requires

Written notice substantially in the statutory 'Notice of Termination of Tenancy' form (34-18-56(c)) delivered at least 30 days before the termination date (month-to-month or other periodic tenancies of more than a month and less than a year); 10 days for week-to-week; 3 months before the end of the occupation year for year-to-year. The form states the date of mailing, directs the tenant to vacate and deliver control on the first day after the end of the current rental period (insert date), states rent must still be paid until then, and that eviction may follow without further notice with defenses raised at the hearing. Delivery: in hand or first-class mail to the tenant's designated address or last known residence.

Replace every [bracketed] item. If your state or city requires specific wording, a specific form, or a translated version, that requirement controls over this draft. Courts dismiss eviction cases over defective notices — if anything is unclear, talk to a lawyer.
