Vehicle Bill of Sale in South Carolina
A record of a private car, truck or motorcycle sale between a seller and a buyer. Many states transfer ownership through the signed title itself and use a bill of sale as proof of the price and date. Check your state's rules below: some require a specific DMV form or a notary.
What South Carolina law says
| Selling a vehicle: bill of sale and title | When a titled vehicle is sold, the owner must sign the assignment and warranty of title on the certificate (or on the form SCDMV prescribes) when the vehicle is delivered, and send the title and assignment to the buyer or SCDMV. The buyer must promptly apply for a new certificate of title. The statute does not require the assignment to be notarized and sets no specific day limit for a private buyer; dealers must title and register a sold vehicle within 45 days. |
