Rent Receipt in Washington

A simple rent receipt to give a tenant for each payment — especially cash. Some states require a receipt for cash rent; check your state below.

What Washington law says

Rent receiptsAlways for cash; on request for other payments. A landlord may refuse cash, but if the landlord accepts a cash rent payment it must give a receipt. For payments made any other way, the landlord must give a written receipt when the tenant asks. The statute does not list required receipt contents. Landlords must accept a personal check, cashier's check or money order for rent (a personal check may be refused if one bounced or was drawn on a closed account within the previous nine months) and must allow payment by mail unless they provide an accessible on-site location.
