Resignation Letter in Alabama

A simple resignation letter you can adapt for immediate resignation or a longer notice period. Your state's final-paycheck and PTO-payout rules are shown below.

What Alabama law says

Final paycheck if you quitNo Alabama law sets a deadline. Final wages are generally due on the next regular payday under the employer's normal pay practice.
Unused vacation / PTO payoutNo Alabama law requires payout of unused vacation or PTO. It depends on the employer's written policy or employment contract. Cities and counties cannot require vacation payout.
At-will employment and exceptionsAlabama is an at-will state: either side can generally end employment at any time for any lawful reason. Statutory exceptions include firing an employee solely for filing a workers' compensation claim or for filing a written notice of a safety-rule violation, and discrimination prohibited by state or federal law (for example, age discrimination against workers 40 and older).
