Demand Letter in Kansas

A demand letter asks someone to pay or fix a problem before you go to small claims court. Many judges expect one, and it is useful evidence. Your state's small claims limit and fee are shown below.

What Kansas law says

Small claims limit$10,000, exclusive of interest, costs and any damages awarded under K.S.A. 60-2610, for recovery of money or personal property.
Filing feeDocket fee of $35 for claims of $500 or less and $55 for claims over $500; this is the only cost required to file. A judge may waive the fee for good cause.
A Supreme Court surcharge authorized through June 30, 2025 may be extended by later legislation; confirm the current total with the clerk.
