What Louisiana law says

Notice before a rent increaseNo statute sets a rent-increase notice period. A lease can be ended (and so its rent changed) only with written notice given before the end of a rental period: at least 10 calendar days before the end of the month for a month-to-month lease; 30 calendar days before the end of the period for a period longer than a month; 5 calendar days before the end of the period for a period of at least a week but less than a month (such as week-to-week); and any time before the period ends for a period shorter than a week. A fixed-term lease controls until it expires.
Rent control / increase limitsNo statute — Louisiana has no state rent control law, and no city or parish is known to have adopted rent control; rent is set by the lease. No statute expressly addresses local rent control, but R.S. 9:3258 says lessors' rights may not be altered, abridged or diminished except by state law (subject to the police power). A 2026 bill to let municipalities adopt rent stabilization (HB 472) died in committee.
