Louisiana Security Deposit Itemization Letter Template

What a Louisiana security deposit itemization letter must include under Louisiana law, and a fill-in draft that follows those rules.

Use the official form if there is one

What Louisiana law requires

The deposit must be returned within one month after the lease ends. If any part is kept (only what is reasonably necessary to remedy the tenant's default or unreasonable wear), the landlord must forward an itemized statement accounting for the amounts retained and giving the reasons, within one month after the tenancy ends or within 15 days after that one-month date. The tenant must give the landlord a forwarding address at lease end for the statement. The return rule does not apply if the tenant abandons the premises without required notice or before the lease ends.

No delivery method is specified beyond 'forward' to the forwarding address.

Fill-in draft

Replace every [bracketed] item. If your state or city requires specific wording, a specific form, or a translated version, that requirement controls over this draft. Courts dismiss eviction cases over defective notices — if anything is unclear, talk to a lawyer.
