Pet Addendum in Michigan

Adds pet terms to a lease. Assistance animals for people with disabilities are not pets: no pet fee or pet rent may be charged for them under federal fair housing rules.

What Michigan law says

Pet deposits and feesA refundable pet deposit counts toward the cap: a 'security deposit' includes any money returnable to the tenant if the unit is returned in the required condition, and total security deposits may not exceed 1½ months' rent. The statute does not address nonrefundable pet fees or monthly pet rent.

It also bars discrimination based on use of adaptive devices or aids. Federal Fair Housing Act reasonable-accommodation rules govern emotional support animals, including no pet fees or deposits. State law also makes it a misdemeanor to maliciously harass, injure or interfere with a service animal.
