Sublease Agreement in Missouri

For a tenant renting their unit, or part of it, to a subtenant. Most leases require the landlord's written consent first — get it, and attach it.

What Missouri law says

Subletting rulesLandlord's written consent required. A tenant whose lease is for two years or less, or who is a tenant at will or by sufferance, may not assign or transfer the term or interest, or any part of it, to another person without the landlord's written assent. The statute sets no reasonableness standard for the landlord's decision.
If a tenant does sublet, the landlord may join the subtenants in rent and possession actions (RSMo § 441.230).
