Montana Notice to End a Month-to-Month Tenancy Template

What a Montana notice to end a month-to-month tenancy must include under Montana law, and a fill-in draft that follows those rules.

What Montana law requires

Written notice given at least 30 days before the termination date stated in the notice (7 days for week-to-week). It may be given at any time during the tenancy, and the tenancy ends on the stated date even mid-rental-period; rent is apportioned by the day unless otherwise agreed. Same delivery methods as other notices: in hand, certificate-of-mailing or certified mail (deemed served 3 days after mailing), or email to the lease-designated address with read receipt or reply.

Because mailed notice counts as served 3 days after mailing, landlords mailing a notice should allow for those days.

Fill-in draft

Replace every [bracketed] item. If your state or city requires specific wording, a specific form, or a translated version, that requirement controls over this draft. Courts dismiss eviction cases over defective notices — if anything is unclear, talk to a lawyer.
