Rent Receipt in New Hampshire
A simple rent receipt to give a tenant for each payment — especially cash. Some states require a receipt for cash rent; check your state below.
What New Hampshire law says
| Rent receipts | No statute requires receipts for rent. For a security deposit, the landlord must promptly give a signed receipt stating the amount and where the deposit (or bond) will be held, and must tell the tenant to note any conditions needing repair on the receipt or in writing within 5 days of move-in. No deposit receipt is required if the deposit is paid by personal check, bank check, or a government or nonprofit agency check, but the 5-day condition-list notice is still required. Signed and dated cash rent receipts are listed as evidence an occupant can use to prove subtenant or implied-tenant status (RSA 540-A:4), so tenants paying cash should ask for one. The deposit rules do not apply to a person who rents out a single-family home and owns no other rental property, or to units in an owner-occupied building of 5 units or fewer (other than a unit in such a building occupied by someone 60 or older). |
