New Jersey Notice to End a Month-to-Month Tenancy Template
What a New Jersey notice to end a month-to-month tenancy must include under New Jersey law, and a fill-in draft that follows those rules.
What New Jersey law requires
Most landlords cannot end a month-to-month tenancy without a statutory good cause; any notice to quit must state the cause in detail and give the notice period set for that ground (e.g., 3 days for disorderly conduct or damage after a notice to cease where required; one month for rule or lease violations, habitual late payment, or refused reasonable lease changes; 2, 3 months, 18 months or 3 years for certain owner-occupancy, conversion and retirement grounds). It must be served personally, left at the tenant's usual place of abode with a family member over 14, or sent by certified mail (and by regular mail if the certified letter is unclaimed). In units exempt from good-cause rules (e.g., owner-occupied buildings with two or fewer rental units), a month-to-month tenancy ends with a one-month notice to quit, which must be proven to the court; if it cannot be served normally, it may be served on an occupant or family member over 14 or posted on the door.

Fill-in draft
Replace every [bracketed] item. If your state or city requires specific wording, a specific form, or a translated version, that requirement controls over this draft. Courts dismiss eviction cases over defective notices — if anything is unclear, talk to a lawyer.
