Jury Duty Excuse Letter in Wyoming

A short letter asking the court to excuse you from jury duty or postpone it. Follow the instructions on your summons first, because courts handle these requests differently, and keep following the summons until the court answers.

What Wyoming law says

Who can be excused from jury dutyWyoming exempts salaried, active firefighters and active police or law-enforcement officers, elected public officials, active-duty Wyoming National Guard members, and people exempt under federal law (such as active-duty military when service would interfere with their duties); an exempt person must claim the exemption by affidavit. A juror cannot be excused for trivial reasons or business inconvenience, but may be excused for threatened serious harm to property, for their own health or a family member's sickness or death, or to care for young children. Anyone 72 or older may be excused on request, and someone who served during a jury term may ask to be excused for the rest of that term.
Penalty for skipping jury dutyIn Wyoming, a summoned juror who willfully and without a reasonable excuse fails to attend may be arrested and brought to court, and is subject to contempt of court.
Jury duty pay and your jobA Wyoming employer may not fire, threaten to fire, intimidate or coerce an employee because of jury service or scheduled attendance for jury service. A violating employer can be ordered to reinstate the employee (without loss of seniority or benefits), must pay the employee's costs and attorney's fees, and can owe exemplary damages of up to $1,000 per violation per employee; the employee must sue within six months. Jurors receive $30 for each full or part day of attendance (the court may add $20 a day after five consecutive days) plus mileage when the one-way trip exceeds five miles. The statutes reviewed do not require employers to pay wages during jury service.
